SeaDevils Help Grand Bahama Children.
"The children, from the hurricane battered Pinder’s Point areas were bused to the Dolphin Sanctuary for a Close Encounter. Thereafter they enjoyed a Christmas party at the UNEXSO premises. "Donations raised from caring individuals and the proceeds of a UNEXSO Sushi Happy Hour, helped to send the children on their way with a selection of gifts and candies and a smile that will last for a long time after Christmas." - Helen Briden
But that is only the end of the story. After Wilma ravaged Cancun and Cozumel and then tore through Florida, it jumped across the Florida Channel and slammed into Grand Bahama. Though most of the tourist and business areas were left undamaged, an area know as Pinder's Point was inundated with a 20 foot storm surge devastating the poor area.
Pinder's Point is an impoverished neighborhood where poor Bahamians and
Haitian immigrants survive looking for work at the shipyard and elsewhere and
fishing in small boats
for the subsistence of their families. Government aid was getting through
but many people were not able to access it. When A number of SeaDevils from Charlottesville also volunteered a little financial help to provide the food stores in support of Helen's efforts. "We have managed to cook and distribute 645 meals over a two week period and I have attached some photo's of a few of the grateful people you have helped", says Helen.

Steve Riely of UNEXSO offered a Dolphin Experience for the children. The plan
developed and with the aid of SeaDevils, H. Forbes Charter who provided the much
needed transportation, and the many friends of UNEXSO who joined in the generous
sushi party and raised all the needed funds, the plan was carried out. Forbes Charter picked the children up along with parental chaperones and the group spent and afternoon meeting the Dolphins and then on to UNEXSO where there was a party complete with a barbeque and gifts of candy, cookies and toys. A most grateful Thank You to all those that helped out and a Happy New Year from Pinder's Point, Grand Bahama. Thank You.
SeaDevil@YahooGroups.com For sometime we have had a group email address. But many people that I speak with don’t seem to know that it exists or how to use it. The list allows you to send an email using the single address to everyone subscribed to the list. You can announce your upcoming dive trip or write a report on your last trip. Of course, you’ll be able to see what others are doing and maybe get a chance to go on a diving adventure that you wouldn’t have even known about otherwise. You can trade news articles and opinions. You can even post photographs and whole galleries and then tell everyone to check it out. You can ask questions about anything concerning diving and receive informed responses; where to stay in Grand Cayman, question about diving medicine, pretty much anything. You might be surprised just who is on the list. Membership is not public and only available to actual members. This protects your email address and privacy, but we have folks all over the world that count themselves as SeaDevils and will be happy to hear from you and help you. The list is hosted by YahooGroups and membership is monitored. You can set your email options; whether you want individual emails as they are posted, a daily digest, or have them held for you to read on the web. How to become a member: 1 Go to the site http://groups.yahoo.com/group/seadevil/ There click on the “Join this Group” bar on the upper right. If you are already a Yahoo member that will pretty much do it. Just sign-in and complete the membership election 2. If you not a Yahoo member you can sign up. Just click on the “Sign Up” statement that appears on the next page. They ask you some basic registration information, not too much and then you too can complete the membership election. 3. Membership of the list is monitored, which means that we get an email saying that you want to join and then approve it. We just want to have a system that discourages anyone form signing up in the middle of the night to blast us some unwanted piece of junk. So far it has worked great. So Come Join Us. Check it out and take the plunge into more diving opportunities.
We'd love to talk with your teacher about coming to visit your class to talk about the ocean and the creatures in it. We'll bring scuba equipment and would like you to help us show it to your classmates. We'll talk about the animals in the ocean, the things that are happening to the ocean to hurt the fish and the things that you and your classmates can do to help protect the ocean.
