SeaDevils Will Make A Splash At Dive Fest - August 27-29
by Lisa O'Conner

The 11th annual Dive Fest will be held at Lake Rawlings August 27th-29th.   The three-day event, which includes scavenger hunts, kayak races, and a treasure hunt is held to raise awareness in the diving community of the vital role of the Divers Alert Network and their continuing effort to improve the safety of recreational scuba diving.  Water sports enthusiasts come from as far away as Florida to support DAN & their local dive clubs, as well as for a shot at some of the nearly $20,000 in prizes given away each year.  From quarry passes to BCD’s and everything in between, the prizes are always awesome and everyone’s a winner.

SeaDevil Divers is proud to announce their participation in this year’s Dive Fest.  Representatives from the club will staff a Club Tent from Friday afternoon through Sunday.  The club will host a fund raising hot lunch of hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and a cold soft drink, with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to DAN.  For those of you who are participating in the SeaDevil Summer Dive Tour, the Dive Fest is one of the events on the tour, and will earn you another entry to the Freeport Raffle.  Dive Tour entry as well as additional raffle entries can be purchased at the tent, or in advance at Dive Connections.

Space will be limited so pack up the kids, grab your snorkel and some sunscreen, and join us at Lake Rawlings for a great time, a great cause, and a great way to show you SeaDevil pride.  See you there!

Young SeaDevils Complete SEAL Team Training
by Susan Finlen

On Friday June 18th parents and friends were impressed by the SEAL Team skills these kids mastered in a short time by Teddy Wooten, Drew McDonough, and John Monopoli.  SEAL Team is a program designed by PADI for children ages 8-12 and is the first step in the “SCUBA for Kids”* program promoted and operated jointly by Dive Connections and ACAC.

For their graduation each showed off a different skill.  Drew started off with a giant stride entry into the deep water.  His performance looked like a seasoned pro.  It should, this was Drew's second year at scuba camp, The second skill he demonstrated was mask removal and replacement.  This was not even a required skill.  Drew has plans of becoming a junior diver as soon as he turns 10. Great job Drew!

Next Teddy demonstrated his skills of regulator retrieval using two different 2 methods.  His second skill was to descend and ascend down a line in deep water.  This guy is ready for the next step.

John the smallest in size only showed off his skills with his dad (Lenny) by giving him the out of air / share air sign.  His second skill was to clear his regulator with the purge method.

These new SEALs are available to help clean your pools this summer.  Just contact the shop for details.  ONLY Kidding!  Hey guys, just remember the #1 rule of SeaDevils and keep blowing bubbles.

*  SCUBA for Kids encompasses a myriad of programs for preteens including PADI SEAL Team, Master SEAL Team, ongoing group activities and even Open Water certification training and trips.  For more information contact Dive Connections.

Scuba Tour back at Camp JEEP! Volunteers Needed!

The Scuba Tour is back at Camp Jeep.  Last year many SeaDevils had a terrific time helping adventurous souls that flock to Camp Jeep take their first breaths underwater.  This year the tour returns on July 15-17 with all sort of rides, contests, good food and entertainment.

Brett Henyon who has recently earned his PADI Instructor designation (Yeah!     Some of your fellow SeaDevil already signed up include, Terry Tate, Paul Archer, Lisa Poindexter, Susan Finlen, Chip Earle, Joe Ballecera and Marlene Hopkins.  Come give them a hand and join the FUN!
